inžinerija statusas T sritis profesijos apibrėžtis Inžinierių profesinės veiklos sritis, kurioje technologijos ir fizinių mokslų žinios, įgytos studijų, praktikos metu ar kita patirtimi, taikomos gamtos išteklių ekonominio naudojimo būdams kurti, žmogaus fiziologinėms galioms tausoti. Inžinerija glaudžiai susijusi su moksliniais tyrimais ir taikomąja moksline veikla, kitaip vadinama eksperimentine plėtra. Tai mokslinių tyrimų ir praktinės patirties sukauptu pažinimu pagrįsti sistemingi darbai, kurių tikslas – kurti naujas arba iš esmės tobulinti jau sukurtas medžiagas, technologijas, produktus, gaminius, įrenginius, procesus, paslaugas, projektuoti jų įdiegimą, planuoti ir organizuoti gamybą. Inžinerijos sąvoka taip pat vartojama mokslo ir studijų kryptims apibrėžti, pvz., chemijos inžinerija, pramonės inžinerija, informatikos inžinerija ir pan. atitikmenys: angl. engineering pranc. ingénierie, f
